Everything you need to know about this multi-award-winning treatment.
If you are looking to restore a younger look and feel of your skin, then Profhilo may be just the answer you are looking for.
Since coming onto the market, it has become one of the top non-surgical/ skin procedures in helping patients who have skin lacking in volume and elasticity. Being a relatively low-risk treatment with minimal downtime means it is a quick and effective way to reverse the inevitable signs of ageing that so many of us fear.
What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is a bio-remodelling agent. The compound itself is stabilised hyaluronic acid which is injected into the skin to reduce laxity in the skin. Profhilo is one of the most highly concentrated doses of hyaluronic acid (64mg HA per 2ml syringe) available on the market today. It contains a combination of both high (H-LA) and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (L-HA), bound together thermally with patented NAHYCO technology. The two types of hyaluronic acid are linked to creating a compound with far greater longevity than either used alone.
It’s important to note that Profhilo is a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid and that hyaluronic acid is something that we naturally find in our body and most non-processed food that we eat. It’s also commonly found in anti-ageing skincare for this very reason … its anti-ageing properties.
By injecting Profhilo, rather than using topical anti-ageing skincare, we can bypass the skin’s upper ‘barrier’ (or surface in other words) and penetrate the deep dermis – superficial subcutaneous layer more efficiently, where it’ll spread to produce firmer, younger-looking skin with a lasting glow.
How does Profhilo work?
Profhilo has been designed specifically to remodel the skin, improve skin laxity, moisturise the skin from within and help the skin to become fuller and firmer – all of the things we’d like to restore once the ageing process has kicked in. Profhilo being one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market means it is hydrophilic in nature. In easy terms, it means that it loves and draws in water, almost like a magnet. Once injected, the hydrophilic effect will take place meaning that water will be drawn to the area and rehydrate skin that is sagging, tired and lacking in moisture.
Profhilo also has a secondary effect of increasing collagen and elastin production within the skin, which helps with the skin’s ability to ‘snap back’ and fill/ smooth out wrinkles and minor folds. All of this in turn helps to immediately hydrate and rejuvenate the skin, but patients can also be confident that results are long-lasting due to its innovative technology.
Profhilo works by injecting the substance directly just under the surface of the skin using the BAP technique (bio aesthetics point), which is a 5-point injection sequence developed by imaging technology which has proved its effectiveness of an even spread.
How long can I expect Profhilo to last and to see results?
Treatment with Profhilo is undertaken in two separate sessions, four weeks apart in order to achieve optimal results as the manufacturer intended. For this reason, we only offer Profhilo as a full treatment (two sessions, four weeks apart) as we have seen less than optimal results with just the one session.
You will start to see skin changes around 3-4 weeks from having your initial session, by then you are ready to have your second session and this is where results can last anywhere up to six months and beyond where treatment can be administered again as needed.
What is the downtime for Profhilo?
In addition to all of its many great properties, Profhilo has minimal treatment time and recovery.
Patients are thoroughly pleased when they are informed they can attend a treatment which doesn’t take up too much time from their busy schedules and that the treatment doesn’t clash with any social events.
We advise patients will be in the clinic with us for anything from 40 minutes to one hour, and to minimise any physical strain or activity following the same day of the treatment. The site of injection will have slight swelling and discomfort immediately post-treatment which will then subside very shortly afterwards. The following day, patients can go about their daily activities, whilst reaping the benefits of a fantastic treatment.
As with all non-surgical treatments, if the skin barrier has been broken in any way there is always a small chance of rare complications such as inflammation, infection, and vascular occlusion. With Profhilo in particular it is extremely uncommon for these to occur but we are always honest and transparent with our patients regarding all aspects of their treatments.
Please note if you are allergic to hyaluronic acid, pregnant or breastfeeding that this treatment is not suitable for you.
